4 Brilliant Reasons You Should Choose a Quartz Countertop

For years, people have been remodeling their kitchens using granite countertops. While granite is still a beautiful option to be used in homes, the trend seems to be going in a different direction. Quartz countertops have become increasingly popular as of late, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. In fact, since 2004, quartz countertop sales have increased by 60%. 1. Family-Friendly

One of the biggest reasons we love quartz countertop is because it is family-friendly. Unlike granite, quartz is non-porous. This means that it is resistant to bacteria, mold and mildew. It is also scratch and stain resistant, so if grape juice or red wine are spilled on the counter, it won't leave a massive stain, as long as it is taken care of in a timely manner. Quartz countertops are also extremely durable. They don't tend to chip or crack as easily as some of the other solid surfaces. While they are completely heat resistant, they can withstand heat up to 300 degrees. This just means that it's best to continue using a hot pad when sitting a hot pan on your quartz countertop.

2. Easy to Maintain

Your quartz countertop is going to require much less maintenance than some other solid surfaces. Since a countertop like granite is porous, you have to reseal it seasonally to ensure that dirt and stains don't get deep into the granite. Quartz does not require any sealing, as it is a non-porous engineered stone. If something is spilled on a quartz surface, all you have to do to clean it up is use dish soap and a soft cloth. If you happen to let a stain sit for a little bit, it's not the end of the world. Most of the time, a glass or surface cleaner and a nonabrasive sponge will do the trick.

If you are looking to deep clean your quartz countertop, which you should do on occasion, you just need to spray a nonabrasive surface cleaner over your countertop and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then, just wipe it away. It's that simple! Granite countertops need to be cleaned at least once a week with a stone cleaner. Granite will also need to be checked periodically for shifting at the seams, stains and scratches. This is not something you will need to worry about with a quartz countertop.

3. Man-Made

If you are looking for a countertop that is completely natural, quartz may not be the countertop for you. Quartz is unique in that it is engineered stone. It is comprised of 93% stone material and 7% of other material, including resins and pigments for color. This helps to make it resistant to scratch, dents and so much more. Although it is not a natural stone, like granite, it can still resemble natural stone and concrete. Since granite is a natural stone, you will have imperfections in your countertop. This is not something you will have to worry about, however. Since it is engineered, you will have few, if any, imperfections.

4. Unlimited Options

The last thing we love about quartz countertops is the flexibility in appearance. The color options are truly endless, whether you want a simple countertop or one with a little more pizzazz. Some people prefer countertops to be a little more predictable in appearance, meaning that it looks uniform throughout. Quartz countertops offer the flexibility to be able to do just that. Similar to granite countertops, the edging options are a lot of different options. Quartz countertops are available in edges, such as bevel, rounded, eased and so much more.
